Countdown to the Aldbourne 5k Fun Run
ALDBOURNE 5K FUN RUN
The Aldbourne 5k Fun Run is returning to the village on Sunday 11th June at 10am.
This scenic fun run will start at the Village Green and traverse a mixture of some tarmac and mostly beautiful trails around the village before finishing back at the Green. There will be tea, coffee and soft drinks available at the start / finish line and your support crew can sustain themselves with bacon butties and burgers before and after the race. Everybody is welcome – you can bring your dog and pushchair with you if you so wish or the more competitive of you can sprint for the finish.
For those with that competitive edge; the first placed man, woman and child will each win free entry to the Bear Grylls Survival Race in September this year. The winners will be able to choose entrance to either a 5k, 10k or 30k survival race designed for participants to release their inner Bear and smash fitness goals along the way! The races are in Trent Park in London on September 30th 2017. There is a family festival as well as the different races so that everyone can go and support at the end of the summer. www.beargryllssurvivalrace.com
Why do it?
It will give you something to aim for and you can take part with family and friends! Every participant will receive a goody bag and a medal. T-shirts are available to purchase when you buy your entry – a few may still be available on the day, but sizes won’t be assured by then.
Will it be fun?
Of course it will! The fabulous Team from The Fitness Space in Marlborough will be getting us all warmed up before the start. Plus you’ll be getting a medal for running through some beautiful countryside whilst raising money for a great charity, what could be more fun on a Sunday morning?
What will it cost?
Tickets will cost £10 each for those over 18. Family tickets are available for £25 or individuals under 18 can run for £5. You don’t need any expensive kit – you can wear anything you want! An Aldbourne 5kFun Run t-shirt would obviously look the best but go fancy and bling it up for the fun run if you’d like!
Views of the Ridgeway panorama stretching for miles ahead.
The run will start and finish at the village green. After 500m of warming everyone up through the village the pack will naturally spread out as we climb the first, and only, rather cheeky hill up towards Baydon.
The tarmac is then finished as the run heads down through the Lawton’s beautiful farmland with views of the Ridgeway panorama stretching for miles ahead of you. Now your breath is back at the bottom of the hill, the route turns sharply to the left and contours around arable pastures and the Scout’s Water Station.
Another sharp left onto the bridleway and runners will be beckoned across Lottage Road and along the byway back towards the Green.
If you want to take a pushchair with you it will need to be a x-country style pushchair capable of being taken over rough terrain.
RAISING FUNDS FOR ST MICHAEL'S C of E (AIDED) SCHOOL
Even if you don't want to run, you can help us raise funds for the school.
What are the proceeds going towards?
All proceeds from the race will go to St Michael’s C of E (Aided) School. We are incredibly lucky to have such a great primary school in the village but there is a shortfall in space and changing facilities for those in Key Stage 1. The PSA is trying to raise £40,000 to address this shortfall through a number of fundraising events.
Can I help?
We have some great volunteers already in the form of:
- the Scouts who are hosting the Water Station
- the Youth Council who are helping at the Finish Line
- Pewsey Vale Running Club are helping with signage
- the school PSA will have amazing cake stands and teas, coffees and soft drinks available
- plus some generous dads will be manning the BBQ for pre and post-race snacks.
If you would like to offer your services for anything then please contact the race organiser directly and we’ll welcome you gratefully!
How About Getting Sponsored for your Fun Run?
If you are going to run, your entry fee goes directly to the the Schools. Why not raise some extra by getting sponsorship from your friends and family?
