What a fantastic day we had! Thank you to all who volunteered, cheered, handed out medals, organised water stations, marshalled and of course those of you who ran… We raised over £3000!!

We said we weren’t going to produce results but by good fortune we had an amazing photographer who caught most of you at the finish line and therefore your times are available! We hope to post some of the photos by the end of the week..

320 participants entered the race, many were “virtual entries” who ran their 5k abroad (as far afield as the USA, Wales, Essex and Baydon) or earlier than the race itself for those who couldn’t make it on the day.

An amazing 47% of the participants were under the age of 18 confirming that anyone could take part. 3 year olds were seen sprinting up Baydon Hill (well, for a bit anyway), followed by pushchairs and dog walker-joggers.

Our 3 overreaching aims were achieved: (1) we held a truly community event that everyone felt able to participate in (2) we got young and old alike out into the countryside enjoying exercise and (3) we raised a wonderful and much needed amount for St Michael’s School.

This year the Fun Run has raised a colossal profit of more than £3000 thanks to most of the village supporting it in one way or another and some wonderfully generous sponsorship.

Why do it?

It will give you something to aim for and you can take part with family and friends! It is a great opportunity to get involved in a really inclusive sporting event. This year we have every possible ability entering. Every participant will receive a medal!

Will it be fun?

Of course it will! The fabulous Team from The Fitness Space in Marlborough are returning to get us all warmed up before the start. Plus you’ll be getting a medal for running through some beautiful countryside whilst raising money for a great charity, what could be more fun on a Sunday morning?

What will it cost?

Tickets will cost £10 each for those over 18. Family tickets are available for £25 or individuals under 18 can run for £5. You don’t need any expensive kit – you can wear anything you want! An Aldbourne 5kFun Run t-shirt would obviously look the best but go fancy and bling it up for the fun run if you’d like!

The Aldbourne 5k Fun Run was held in the village on Sunday 11th June at 10am.

The run will start and finish at the village green. After 500m of warming everyone up through the village the pack will naturally spread out as we climb the first, and only, rather cheeky hill up towards Baydon.

The tarmac is then finished as the run heads down through the Lawton’s beautiful farmland with views of the Ridgeway panorama stretching for miles ahead of you. Now your breath is back at the bottom of the hill, the route turns sharply to the left and contours around arable pastures and the Scout’s Water Station.

Another sharp left onto the bridleway and runners will cross Lottage Road and then it’s all the way along the byway back towards the Green.

If you want to take a pushchair with you it will need to be a x-country style pushchair capable of being taken over rough terrain.

Even if you don't want to run, you can help us raise funds for the school.

What are the proceeds going towards?

All proceeds from the race will go to St Michael’s C of E (Aided) School in Aldbourne.  We are incredibly lucky to have such an outstanding primary school in the village but there is always a need for fundraising to add to its facilities and this year we are hoping to build an all weather running track on our school grounds.

Can I help?

We have some great volunteers already in the form of:

  • the Scouts who are hosting the Water Station
  • the organisers from the Mad March Hare Race in Lydiard Park are helping us out wonderfully with signage
  • the school Friends of St Michael’s School will have a BBQ, amazing cake stands, teas, coffees and soft drinks available. There will also be stalls and an assault course for anyone with the energy for it at the end!
  • plus the ice cream van may make a guest appearance..

If you would like to offer to help with marshalling or have anything to offer then please contact the race organiser directly and we’ll welcome you gratefully!

How About Getting Sponsored for your Fun Run?

If you are going to run, your entry fee goes directly to the the School charity. Why not raise some extra by getting sponsorship from your friends and family?
